About JH Outback India
Our Beginning
It all began just before Christmas 2011, when Michael Jebaraj traveled from Bangalore to Mumbai for a JH Outback session titled "Journey of Transition", led by the International Director of JH Outback. The session introduced the transformative idea of parenting teens like a coach, not a cop, as children transition into adolescence.
Inspired, Michael invited the director to Bangalore the following week. Leaders from churches, missions, and the marketplace gathered for the presentation, which received an overwhelmingly positive response. Sensing God's leading, Michael announced India's first Outback parent-teen camp for the summer of 2012.
Our Growth
Around 25 attendees signed up with their teens for the inaugural camp. The life-changing testimonies from that first camp ignited a vision to do more. Despite challenges, Outback camps have continued twice a year since then.
A core group of men, deeply impacted by Outback, has met every Saturday morning to pray—a prayer foundation vital to the camp's longevity. Hundreds of parent-teen relationships have experienced breakthroughs, with powerful testimonies fueling the movement's growth.
Our Reach
Outback India has hosted participants from across India—Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Trivandrum, and Pune—as well as from Sri Lanka and Malaysia. A key milestone was conducting an exclusive Outback camp for a local church, laying the foundation for a sustainable, church-led ministry. Outback envisions more churches adopting it as part of their ongoing ministry.
Our Legacy
Another highlight has been seeing Outback's own children step up as volunteers, enriching the activity-packed weekends and deepening parent-teen bonds. Their involvement reflects a growing legacy of families working together to impact others.
Our Future
In January 2025, Outback will expand beyond Bangalore, hosting its first camp in Mumbai, where this journey began. Plans are already underway to bring Outback to more cities.
Our Vision
Outback is a Spirit-led movement to transform cities one family at a time. As declared in Malachi 4:6, "turning the hearts of the parents to the children and the hearts of the children to the parents" is the key to transforming families, cities, and nations.
